Forty-five-year-old blacksmith Mohamed. He left Duenza, a place south of Timbuktu, in April 2012. As a blacksmith Mohamed was accused of manufacturing weapons by members of the Gandakoy armed militia which was created by the Malian government to fight Tuareg rebellions during the 2000’s. Some of them are allied to Islamist militias. He was taken to the bush and beaten. He decided to flee with his family. According to him, when he arrived to the camp he had to buy his canvas cover from another family for 50,000.00 CFA Francs (approximately 75 euros).
